Teen Money Tips - Job Ideas For Teens Pt2

More job ideas for teens-

Web design – If you are good at creating attractve, functional web pages reasonably quickly then you could find yourself employment designing web sites for people who need them. It is important to do this in a professional manner, so you need to have a set price guide (eg, $30 up front, $30 when the customer is satisfied with the website and $5 for each update you have to do on the site) To get started with this then you need to have a computer with the appropriate software. Also, you need to advertise with fliers around local businesses, a good website of your own and word of mouth.

Installing and fixing computers – If you are good at installing/putting together computers then this could be an ideal line of employment for you. Simply go round to the person's house, plug the computer in, show them how it works and you're away! You could also offer tuition for a per lesson rate ($5 a lesson etc) Another thing you could offer is to upgrade people's computers. They could pay you to source the components they need and do the installation. Most importantly though – you MUST know what you're doing. Nobody wants their new thousand dollar computer ruined by someone who doesn't really know how to put it together at all!

Teen Money Tips - Money In Versus Money Out

Does your money just seem to disappear, and by the end of the week your broke with no idea where it went? If so, then you need to find a reliable way to work out exactly how much you are spending versus how much you are earning. By doing this you will be able to track where you spend too much money and avoid those places as often as possible. Also, you will know exactly how much more you need to earn (or how much you need to reduce your spending) to break even or find yourself at the end of the week with more money than you started with!

How you do this is not difficult! Simply write down everything you spend on one piece of paper and everything you earn in that same time period. At the end of the week subtract the expenses (what you spend) from what you earn. Repeat this process for about 4-8 weeks and if you consistently wind up with less money than you earn or the same amount as you earn (not losing, not gaining) then you need to get your expenses in order. Read over some of the other posts in this blog and find out about ways that you can cut down on your spending. Also, in the near future I will provide more ways of reducing your spending without having to really change your lifestyle so make sure you bookmark this site!

Teen Money Tips - Cool free software

For some of us school is starting again now and it's time to get back into homework and assignments and things like that. Of course this means that your computer may once again be used for other things apart from gaming, chatting with friends and listening to music. In this post I'm going to tell you about some great (and free software) that can be used to help you with your homework!

1 - Open Office (.org) - This is a free office suite of software that includes word processor and spreadsheet. It works really well and doesn't slow down your computer. It has all the features of a paid offic suite and I would highly reccommend it!

2- The Gimp - This is a free photo editor that is much more advanced than Windows Paint. It's a very professional piece of software that is easy to use! I would highly reccommend you download it!

3 - Mozilla Firefox - This is a really great internet browser. From what I can tell it is incredibly secure and safe (and the pop up blocker works really well!) the best bit though is the tabbed browsing which means you can open lots of internet windows but not take up much space on the taskbar. This software runs really, really well and is absolutely awesome!

4 - QuData Calculator - This one will really help with maths assignments! It is an advanced desktop calculator that can peform various trigonometral functions as well as phsycics calculations. It also has a unit converter!

Teen Money Tips - Job ideas part 1

In this post I will cover a few job ideas that you could get started with. In future posts I will write about more jobs that you may be interested in.

1 - Working for parents - Do your parents own a business or have jobs you could do for them around the house? If so, ask if you could do some work for them. You could offer to do administrative tasks or do household chores so they don't have to worry about doing them.

2 - Getting a job in a department store or large retail outlet - If you do this then the pay is usually quite good for a part time job. Also, if you work for such a store you may be able to get an employee discount (sometimes around 30%) of purchases there. I even know of some companies that entitle you to a certain amount of free "stuff" each month!

3 - Swimming pool lifeguard - If you are a good swimmer (and are willing to possibly ressucitate people) then a job as a lifeguard could be quite good for you. This job really relies on swimming skills but if you get it you get paid, you may also get free access to the pool facilities and you may meet some cool people along the way!

Teen Money Tips - Investing for minors

If you are under the age of 18 (or 21) depending on where abouts in the world you live then you are considered a minor. This means that there are certain things that you can't do and the bad news is investing is usually included in this. The reason that "minors" cannot invest is because they are not at the age where they can legally sign a contract.

This then leaves so called "minors" wondering how on earth they can acutally invest in the sharemarket, or in commodities/precious metals, or even property. Well there are ways that minors can invest so today we will look at ways minors can invest in the sharemarket.

Firstly, you need to understand that the sharemarket is not a way to make money quick! Unless you are extremely lucky, or have relatives who are experts at picking quick growth stocks/shares, you would be better to invest in large companies that experience slow growth. This way your money is safer and you learn the basics of the sharemaret - when you get more experienced you can actively stock pick with better knowledge.

Now for a minor to invest this usually requires an adult (usually parents) to either set up a "custodial account" (the adult sets it up and checks it over but you do the investing) with a stockbroker, or you invest through their own account but pay them the money for the shares.

So there you have it, there is the basic way that a minor can invest in the sharemarket. In future posts I will cover different types of shares and various investing strategies!

Teen Money Tips - Ever considered second hand?

Whenever most of us want to buy something we simply go out and buy it brand new. However, if you're willing to buy things second hand (either online or from pawn shops, classified ads or other channels of second hand merchandise) you can often buy good quality products at a much lower cost.

So what sort of goods can you buy second hand that are often available in good condition?

-Sports equipment (tennis rackets, weight training gear etc.)
-Gaming consoles and games (just ensure that the games do not have scratched discs!)
-Computers and computer accessories (always, always check out a second hand computer or second hand computer accessories before you buy. Also it pays to have a returns policy with the seller. This is even more important if you buy online from auction sites!)
-Normally expensive clothing or accessories (leather jackets, watches etc)
-Musical instruments (guitars are a very good example of this, however, check the instrument over for signs of damage)

There are of course plenty of other things you can buy second hand. Another great thing about buying second hand is that you can often haggle for a better price. However, its always important to remember to check the item you wish to purchase over and make sure it works well. Also, if you buy online or from a classified ad remember to keep the seller's contact info!

Teen Money Tips - Keep your small change!

Every time you guy to the local shops to buy a drink or rent out a movie, what do you do with the small change you have left? Many people just spend it (either then or at a later date) But today, I am going to show you why you should instead save that small change, and also how you can save it easily.

Simple steps to saving small change -

Step 1 - Get a jar
Step 2 - Label the jar "Small Change Savings"
Step 3 - Every time you have small change put it into the jar.
Step 4 - Do not use the small change until the end of the year (if you start half way through the year then stop half way through next year etc.)

Its as easy as that!

Now let's work out how much you could save using this method! First of all, work out on average how many cash transactions you perform a week that result in you getting small change. In this example, we will use 5 transactions a week. Now let's say that on average you recieve $1.20 in small change from each transaction (on average)

Now let's do some maths :( -

5 x 1.20 x 56 (weeks in a year) = $336 in small change a year. That $336 could be saved, invested or spent on something far better than what the individual bits of small change would have bought. It really is that easy to save an extra bit of money each year!

Teen Money Tips - Earn $100 a week without spending a dime!

Making money with articles is not as hard as it seems. When you are trying to make money with articles, you don’t really need previous career related experience. You can learn everything you need to know from the Internet. You can learn new skills along the way to make your living online. You can become an expert in one area by picking up new skills gradually.

When you are writing articles, you have to keep your readers in mind. A lot of the readers scan through article rather than reading it. So your article should consist of a good title, plenty of subtitles and bullet points. A good title should draw readers’ attention quickly and bullet points will make them easy to find the information they are looking for.

Make money with article is easy.

1. What to Sell: You have to decide what product you want to promote and make money. You can sign up for clickbank.com or CommissionJunction.com as an affiliate. Here you can find a lot of good products to sell. You can choose something you know a bit about or something you like but please make sure it is a top product in its category.

2. Research Keywords: Next, you need to know how to choose keywords that can help you get a good amount of traffic, without being too competitive to get on the first or second page. Keyword Suggestion Tool is a handy little tool that will help you to determine which phrases are searched most often on both Wordtracker and Overture.

3. Write An Article: Then you can write an article about the subject of the product you chose. You should carefully calculate the keyword density for SEO purposes. At the end of each article, don’t forget to include a resource box with your affiliate link that you are promoting.

4. Submit the Article: Submit that article to every free article directory you can find. You may want to modify the resource box, title or some words in one of the paragraph slightly with each submission.

It’s fairly easy and everyone should do it. Best of all, it doesn’t cost you a cent. Repeat these steps until you are earning more than $100 a week. Once you start earning more than $100 a week, you can spend some of your earnings hiring freelance writers to write for you. These freelance writers will ghost write articles for you and you own the copyrights of these articles. You can also invest some money on article submission software or getting an article submission service. Ghostwriting and submission service allow you to spend more time working on other aspects of your online business and make more money.

Teen Money Tips - Online Auction Tips - Selling

Here are some tips for when it comes to selling things on online auctions. After all, we all want the most profit possible!

Research your item carefully.

Be clear on your returns policy and whether you will refund return shipping costs.
Only accept bids from those with more than 50% positive feedback. (explain that it gives you peace of mind)

Be clear on what payment methods are accepted.

Do not accept cash in post (only cash on pickup) As the cash may be lost in post or stolen and it could lead to legal disputes (the buyer may claim that they sent you the money and you received it, and then chose not to send the item and claim that the money never arrived.)

Answer all questions asked politely and monitor your auction/auctions.

Don't waste money on listing enhancements such as gallery photos and bold titles unless you are selling few items but at a very high price. For most sellers, these types of enhancements just waste money. Front page listings should only be used if you are constantly selling items at a high profit margin and can afford to pay through the nose for good advertising.

Try and post your listing so that it finishes in the evening. This is so people who have come home from work can still catch your auction before it closes and hopefully put a bid in.

Listing your auction so it finishes at the weekend is not necessarily better as some people go away in the weekends and if they do not have internet access whilst they are away they will not be able to bid on your listing. However, do not worry too much about when your auction finishes because in some cases it is difficult to have your auction finish at peak times.

Ensure that the item is adequately packed and that the box is waterproofed as much as possible to prevent any breakages or water damage whilst the item is being shipped.

Teen Money Tips - Online Auction Tips - Buying

For those of you who like to buy items from online auctions here are some tips you can use. Who knows, maybe you might even be able to buy items on the cheap and then resell them for more, all on the same website.

Search for misspellings (e.g. compoter instead of computer) as you will sometimes find good quality items with no or very few bids because the title was spelt wrong.

Use specific keywords when searching for items - use specific brand names, model types etc. This reduces your chance of finding items that you are not interested in and saves you time. It could also save you money by finding listings that have very specific titles, and therefore have missed out on bidders because most people don't use specific keywords.

Set yourself a bidding limit and stick to it! Remember, for most items there'll be more than one listing.

Wait until the last possible minute to bid so you don't have to pay as much. You may like to use sniper bidding software for this (links to sniper bidding software can be found in the links section of this site) If the auction has auto-extend make sure you know how it (auto-extend) works (this information can usually be found in the help section of most online auction sites) However, some sites do not support auto-extend.

Check the seller's feedback and make sure you buy from a seller with mostly good feedback.

Don't get caught up in bidding wars (where you and one or more bidders constantly beat the other's bid amounts) as you may end up paying more than you had to. In some cases I have seen people pay more than what the item is worth in a physical store!

Make sure the seller's return policy is fair and that you understand it.

Ask questions if necessary - don't leave anything to chance.
If the listing has a photo inspect it and try and see if it has been digitally edited in any way.

Teen Money Tips- How to ask for an allowance

For many teens an allowance is the only way they get any money directly (as in cash in the hand or money in the bank) However, some teens may not have an allowance and therefore have no way of earning money. In this post I am going to tell you some differing strategies for getting an allowance.

Strategy 1 - Ask outright - Simply go to you parents or caregivers and ask for an allowance. Don't ask for a rediculous amount, just something reasonable ($10 a week or something like that) If they say yes, you're in the clear, but if they say no try some of the more detailed strategies below.

Strategy 2 - Compromise amount - If your parents/caregivers say no to an allowance try and compromise on the amount of money you will get or how often you will get it. For example if they say no to $10 a week then ask for $8 a week, or $5 a week etc.

Strategy 3 - Compromise for work - You could always say that you will do a specific job or jobs around the house for an allowance. This is often a very effective way of getting an allowance. Jobs you could do include - lawn mowing, cleaning the bathroom, doing the dishes, looking after pets etc.

Strategy 4 - Deposit match - If you already earn money through a job or online business etc, then you could do a deal with your parents/caregivers to say that for every dollar you save (or invest) your parents deposit in a set amount. Some parents may not wish to deposit a dollar for every dollar you save/invest. Instead they may wish to deposit 50 cents or some other set amount for every dollar you save or invest. This really is an effective way of getting an allowance as you can get extra savings or investment funds for doing very little.

Now all you need to do is go out and try to get yourself an allowance. But remember, use the money wisely to either create yourself more money (investment) or gather your money together (savings) Finally, the allowance could go towards running a business such as eBay selling (use the money to buy items for selling) or setting up a local business using your talents (lawn mowing, computer repairs etc.)

Teen Money Tips - Free online money making opportunities part 1

In this post I will tell you about a free online money making opportunity that you can use to make some extra money online. What is important to remember is that these opportunities that I will tell you about are not designed so you can make hundreds extra a week but are instead fun and easy ways to make a little bit of extra cash. Remember any opporunity you see online that claims you can make thousands for little or no work is pretty much guaranteed to be a scam!

Opportunity 1 - Take The Internet Back

What is Take The Internet Back? Take The Internet Back is a new company that has started up where you get paid to read email advertisements from paid advertisers. Take The Internet Back works slightly differently though as you earn a proportion of the company's total earnings depending on how many points you have (points can be earned for reading emails and referring other members) Some of the money you earn also gets paid into the company's "war chest" for buying new assets and increasing market share. I would highly recommend Take The Internet Back as you earn a share of the company so you could potentially make a decent amount of money.

How much does it cost? Membership for Take The Internet Back is free and after you have been a member for six months you automatically become a member for life (you can still opt out if you want to though) The only condition is that you refer at least one other person to Take The Internet Back in order to receive your free lifetime membership.

Extra information about Take The Internet Back

* Payment is done by Paypal on a monthly basis.

* Receive $ 10 for free on signup.

* Minimum payout is $20

* Open to international members.

* Signup is quick and easy.

* Receive access to great software downloads on signup including an article submitter to help you get your articles across the internet as soon as possible.

If you are interested in signing up for Take The Internet Back click here

Bookmark this blog because in the future I will add more free online money making opportunities. Also there will be more savings, investment and spending tips for teens added regularly!

Teen Money Tips - Why bother saving money now?

For many teens whenever they earn or recieve money, they spend it all. Saving money is just not considered cool and is (for most people, especially teens) a difficult thing to do. Some will just say "I don't want to save" but many will save "Why should I save now, I should leave that until I'm older". Well today I am going to tell you why you should start saving money now, even if it's just a little bit. Remember, saving money is fairly low risk compared to investing it in stocks/shares or other things so it will take longer to accumulate.

Basically, you should be saving between 10-20% of everything you earn. For most teens this would be an easy enough amount to save and would not require a massive change in spending habits. Now you might be thinking '10-20% of everything I earn, that will never be enough!" well in the short term this may be true, but in the long run (and with the help of our friend 'compounding interest') it will be. Compounding interest is where you earn interest (basic definition- extra money given to you by your bank for placing money in their accounts,we will cover this topic more later) on top of your interest.

For example - John puts $100 in his bank account at 10% interest per month (please note this is a high rate of interest used for illustrative purposes only) By the start of next month his $100 has grown to $110 because of the 10% interest. Next month his $110 has grown to $121 because he has received "compounding interest" (interest on his interest as well as his principal - the amount he originally deposited)

So if you were to put away $30 every month for the next 40 years and it was to grow at 5% P.A (per annum- every year) then by the end of the 40 years you would have $45,662.31. Not enough to retire on but a nice amount anyway for future investments or to go on a retirement holiday with etc. If you were to recieve 10% P.A. compounding your $30 a month investment would grow to $175,266.65 over 40 years!

Now go out and start saving a bit of money each month so that when you get older you don't have to worry as much about how you can afford to save! If you would like a free compounding interest calculator then visit http://www.moneychimp.com/calculator/compound_interest_calculator.htm
